Industry & Production

The new plant is coming, but who is planning how it will produce?

Buildings, machines and logistics are often planned separately. I bring them together: layout, material flow and ramp-up, seen from production, not from the floor plan.

How would you like to start?

I will send you a short, personal email. No newsletter.

I call you back personally, usually the same working day.

15 minutes to get to know each other, no obligation. You get a confirmation by email.

Smaller first packages often start the next day

The problem

The building is planned before the process is fixed.

Column grid, gates and floor slab lock in the material flow for decades. If the process is drawn in afterwards, old detours move into the new building.

  • Layout follows the site boundary, not the process
  • Detours and interim storage
  • Lead time rises
  • Delivery performance falls

73 %of variant manufacturers miss their delivery-reliability target, by 21 percentage points on average.Source: Fraunhofer IPA, benchmark of 500 variant manufacturers

≈ 10×is how much more a planning error costs with each project phase, by the rule of thumb.Source: rule of ten, cited in a 2024 dissertation at Saarland University

From practice

What looks simple in PowerPoint has to work on the shop floor.

Two examples, anonymised until the client agrees to be named.

Cable works

Make bottlenecks visible, compare scenarios.

Starting point
A production site that grew over decades is reaching its limits.
What I did
Process map, bottleneck analysis, layout scenarios and practical production aids.
Pipe manufacturer

Production and logistics as one system.

Starting point
Pipe manufacturing: production and logistics are tightly linked.
What I did
A production and logistics concept, with workshops and regular alignment meetings.

What I do not do

No slide decks without implementation. No change coaching and no facilitation of change processes among the workforce. Specialists exist for that.

What I do: plan process, layout and material flow so that your architect, your planner and your plant management can work with the result.

About me

Dr.-Ing., doctorate in production engineering.

I speak the same technical language as your foremen and operators. You work directly with me.

Let us get started

Is your building project already under way? Then every week before the building application counts.

For a smaller, clearly defined first package I can often start the next day. From the start you talk to the engineer who also does the work.
